Snaps is an important part of the Swedish christmas dinner, if not for its yumminess then for its ability to wash down all the food in between portions! Here is how I flavour my snaps this year:
Here is what you need:
- 350 ml unflavoured Vodka. – I am obviously going to use the Swedish brand “Absolut Vodka” but another brand of Vodka will work too!
- 2 branches of your christmas tree! – the younger the springs, the better the taste.
- A couple cm of orange peel. – You only want the orange layer of the peel, be careful not to get the white of the orange in there since it will taste bitter.
- A pinch of saffron
- 1 teaspoon sugar. – I used a dark sugar, but whatever you prefer will be as good.
- 5-8 whole cloves
Here is what you do:
It really cannot be easier, you just add all your spices to your vodka, give it a shake and let it stand for 1-2 weeks. Taste it now and then and when you are happy with the flavour, remove the spices as they will keep releasing flavour until you do! When you are about to serve your snaps, feel free to add some fresh orange peel and christmas tree branches for decoration!
